Front Row Motorsports Wins First Race with Roush Yates Engines

May 6, 2013

Mooresville, NC (May 6, 2013)  A fury of Fords broke through the pack under threatening weather to finish 1-2-3 and win the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday.

Roush Yates’ powered Fords worked together all day to bring home a win at a race plagued by rain. David Gilliland locked up with David Ragan for a tremendous last-lap push to the finish that put Ragan in Victory Lane and gave Front Row Motorsports their first Sprint Cup Victory.

“I’m kind of a low-key guy, but man, this is awesome. First off, I’ve got to thank the Lord. Without him nothing is possible. I’ve got to thank my teammates David Gilliland and Josh Wise. If it wasn’t for that final push from David Gilliland, I don’t know what to say,” said an elated Ragan in Victory Lane. “This is a true David vs. Goliath moment here.”

“Our Farm Rich Ford was fast,” Ragan continued. “We made the right pit calls all day. We’re a small team. We build our own chassis, our own bodies. I can’t thank Ford Racing, Doug Yates, Robert Yates, and Jack Roush enough. Man, it’s a special moment for all of our partners here. This is big.”

NASCAR slowed the race on lap 122 and stopped if after lap 125 when showers arrived shortly after 3pm EST. Carl Edwards had nosed ahead of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. moments earlier, leaving the Fords of Edwards, Stenhouse Jr., Joey Logano, and Brad Keselowski at the front of the field. After a 3 hour and 36 minute rain delay, the race was re-started and Gilliland and Ragan saw an opportunity to make their move.

“What a great day for Front Row Motorsports, an underfunded team coming in here and being able to finish 1-2 is awesome,” said Gilliland. “I’m very proud of David Ragan. I know he would have done the same for me. I had a heck of a run, we were pushing. I was locked to his bumper and I wasn’t going to let him go.”

Bob Jenkins, owner of Front Row Motorsports, shared in David’s excitement.

“I tell you what makes it special is just the time and the effort that these guys put into these cars,” said Jenkins. “There are a lot of owners out there that they get the best available driver they can get and they’re like a hired gun, but the thing that I think makes our team different than some of the rest is that we’re so close. More than anything we’re friends and I know I’ve got drivers that are capable of winning races.”

Roush Yates’ Fords were also fast in the Nationwide Series, where Travis Pastrana earned his first career pole. Pastrana circled the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway with a fast lap of 176.500 mph for the Aaron’s 312 on Saturday.

Roush Yates Engines showed power and performance on the grassroots circuit this weekend as well. Davey Johnson, a seasoned veteran in the dirt late model series, dominated the Late Model feature at Lernerville Speedway on Friday night in the Precise Racing Products DIRTcar Late Model divison. Johnson started on the pole with his Roush Yates powered 410 Ford Dirt Late Model engine and ran away with his second feature win in the last year.

Gregg Satterlee completed a personal weekend sweep winning Friday night at Eastside Speedway and Saturday night at Winchester Speedway. Satterlee started seventh at Eastside Speedway on Friday and pulled away to a five second lead to earn his first victory of the season on the Three State Flyers circuit. He followed it up Saturday night at Winchester Speedway by leading all 35 laps in the Lee Stultz Memorial race.

Roush Yates Powers Four Wins in Four Series

April 29, 2013

Mooresville, NC (April 29, 2013)  Roush Yates Engines displayed power, performance, and reliability this weekend across four series of racing with wins in the late model, modified, NASCAR Nationwide and sprint car series.

Eric Wells of Hazard, KY, won his first ever World of Outlaws Late Model Series race with his Roush Yates 436 Ford on Sunday night. Wells took over as leader of the race on lap 47 when the top runners tangled with a lapped car to win the 50 lap A-Main at Duck River Raceway Park (Wheel, TN).

Wells started 12th and looked like he was going to be in-line for a fourth place finish behind the leader, fellow Roush Yates engine driver Josh Richards, when a dramatic turn of events happened with 3 laps to go.

“I saw a mess on the front stretch and the track was blocked,” said Wells in Victory Lane. “I got on the brakes and tried to stay out of trouble. I just headed for the infield to try and stay out of it and keep our stuff in one piece. We slipped through that one and ended up with a win.”

Wells held off his charging competitors during the last three laps to become the fifth driver in World of Outlaws’ history to win an A-Main while chasing the Rookie of the Year award.

“We had a pretty good car from the drop of the green,” said Wells. “Sometimes you just have to have luck on your side and tonight we did. I couldn’t be happier to win a World of Outlaws race this early in our first full season.”

Chris Brown went to Victory Lane Thursday night at Texas Thunder Speedway with his Roush Yates 410 modified engine. Brown overtook Stormy Scott for the lead on lap 10 and led the final 30 laps to take home the $4,000 purse at the debut race in Killeen, TX.

“I knew lapped traffic was going to come into play, but I didn’t think it would come into play that early,” said Brown. “Things worked out our way, so we’ll take it.”

Thursday’s win was Brown’s seventh career USTMS win and the fifth in his home state.

On the NASCAR circuit, Brad Keselowski held off Kevin Harvick to win Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond International Raceway. Keselowski passed Kyle Busch with nine laps left and crossed the finish line 0.718 seconds ahead of second place. This was Keselowski’s first win since switching to Roush Yates Engines this season.

“It’s very gratifying,” said Keselowski from Victory Lane. “We’ve had a lot of seconds this year (two in the Nationwide Series), and we’ve been really close on the Cup side. It’s great to get that turned around and finally get to Victory Lane in a Ford.”

“This is a Mustang. Now we’ve got to win in a Fusion. The Fords have been really fast, and we finally closed one out today.”

Jack Dover capped off this weekend’s wins for Roush Yates with a victory at Butler County Speedway in the very first Carpetland Nebraska 360 Sprints race on Saturday night. Dover runs a Roush Yates Ford Sprint 360 engine and has 2 wins so far this season.

Winning Weekend for Roush Yates on Dirt

April 22, 2013

Mooresville, NC (April 22, 2013)  Grassroots racers across the country found Victory Lane with their Roush Yates-powered engines over the weekend, capturing wins in the sprint car and USMTS modified series.

Sierra Jackson dominated the field on Saturday night with her Roush Yates Sprint 360 engine at the season-opening sprint car feature at ASA-sanctioned Meridian Speedway in Meridian, ID. Jackson, an Idaho native, had to fight through several pre-season bugs including her wing flattening out during her heat race, but roared to the front on the final restart to win the main event.

“It took us all night to get the car right, but I really have to thank my crew,” said the reigning Canadian-American Western Winged Sprintcar Series Champion in Victory Lane.

Jason Johnson won at Heart O’Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas during an emotional night on Friday as several firefighters from the West, Texas explosion were introduced on the front stretch before the race. The race was eventually red flagged to allow spectators to gather outside the track on interstate I-35 as the four firefighters who were lost in the explosion where being transported from the scene of the accident. The interstate was lit up as fans stood with flashlights, phones, and anything else to help light the way. During the intermission drivers did their part by collecting donations for the families of the fallen.

Once the race restarted Johnson continued to lead from start to finish to capture his fifth win of the season and extend his lead in the Lucas Oil ASCS Championship standings.

Jeremy Payne put on a show with his Roush Yates modified engine not too far from Kansas Speedway on Friday night at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS. Payne moved into second in just three laps and took the lead on lap 8 to hold on and pick up his first USMTS Casey’s Cup Series win of the season. He crossed the finish line six car-lengths ahead of defending USMTS National Champion Ryan Gustin to earn his 12th career USMTS victory.

Ragin’ Cajun Captures $5,000 with a Victory at 81 Speedway

April 1, 2013

Mooresville, NC (April 1, 2013) The Ragin’ Cajun Jason Johnson ends the month of March the same way he started it, with a much deserved trip to Victory Lane.

Jason and the Stenhouse Jr./HM Racing/JJR team made the journey west to 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas.  The National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) always brings fierce competitors and Saturday, March 30th was no exception.

The pit area was filled to max capacity and the drivers knew the challenge of just making it into the A-Main was demanding.  Johnson earned the pole position in the second heat race.  He fought off Lucas Wolfe, Tim Crawley, C.J. Johnson and Danny Lasoski securing a fourth place starting position in the A-Main.

The Ragin’ Cajun may have started fourth in the feature, but he didn’t stay there long.  He started by passing the third and second place cars until the red flag came out on lap ten.  Johnson was sitting in the second position and had his eyes set on the race leader Don Droud Jr..  The racing commenced and the two race leaders put on quite a show until a caution came out on lap 19.  Johnson was still running second, but more determined than ever to make that one last pass.  On lap 24, Johnson used his Roush Yates Engine to power into the top spot. He maintained his position to the checkered and captured the $5,000-to-win top prize.  Johnson won the NCRA event over Droud, Seth Bergman, Danny Wood and Mike Peters.

Jason Johnson will be back to ASCS National Tour action next weekend with the ASCS stars heading to Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas followed by I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Penske Wins First Race with Ford Power

March 11, 2013

Mooresville, NC (March 11, 2013)  Ford Racing and Roush Yates engines excelled in power, performance, and reliability over the weekend winning in the NASCAR Nationwide series and ARCA Racing series. Ford also received the NASCAR Driving Business Award earlier this week.

Sam Hornish Jr. delivered Roger Penske his first win of the season since switching to Roush Yates’ Ford engines in 2013. Hornish put on a dominating performance during the Sam’s Town 300 NASCAR Nationwide race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon. Leading 114 laps, he credited his car and unmatched speed for the win.

” This feels awesome. The car was great.” said Hornish. “I didn’t know until this morning that this was the Sam’s Town 300. It is cool that I was able to win it. I have to thank all the people at Penke Racing and Roush Yates engines for giving us this opportunity.”.

Hornish battled hometown favorite Kyle Busch with seven laps to go during the final restart, pulling ahead and taking home his second career win in the Nationwide series. He now leads the championship standings by 19 points over Justin Allgaier.

Grant Enfinger believes good things come to those who wait. After finishing second or third 13 times in the ARCA racing series, Enfinger found Victory Lane at Mobile Speedway this weekend with his Roush Yates powered Ford. He held off 15-year-old rookie Kyle Benjamin to lead 165 of the 200 laps and bring home the checkered flag at his hometown track.

“I knew we were going to get here, I just didn’t think it would take this long,” Enfinger said in Victory Lane. “I’ve wanted to win for so long. To do it in front of the home crowd is something special. A lot of these people, family and friends, can’t come up north when we race.”

Ford Racing was also honored this week by receiving the NASCAR Driving Business Award. The annual award is bestowed upon the Official NASCAR Partner that demonstrates extraordinary leadership and results through its participation in the NFFB Council. With its win, Ford becomes the first two-time recipient of the Driving Business Award.
