Have you ever found the perfect coil spring rate for your race car and then turned around and noticed that your coil spring binds or you just wished you had more travel on the suspension? Take a good look at your suspension and see if you have room to increase the diameter of the coil over springs from 2.5″ to a 3″ and gain more travel. As you see from the photo below the larger diameter spring does not need as many windings to achieve the same spring rate thus allowing for longer travel. The 3.0″ diameter spring has 7 coils versus the 9 coils on the 2.5″ diameter spring. The actual coil wire diameter on the larger spring is lager at .460″ compared to the smaller spring at .420″ and the overall weight of the 3.0″ spring is about 1/2 of a pound heavier than the smaller diameter unit.
Again, keep in mind that the larger spring is 1/2″ in diameter larger than the 2.5″ diameter spring and to check all of your clearances first before investing in the larger springs. To help you adapt these new larger coil over springs we sourced some really nice black anodized adapters which allow you to install the larger springs on your car. If you purchase any of the Draco Coil Springs from Roush Yates Performance Products during the month of February you will get these adapters for free (a savings of over $20).
