Mechanical and/or Electrical gauges are a necessity for race cars but installing them can sometimes be a pain in the butt. If you install them right the first time you probably will not have to touch the gauge panel for a long time. However, no mater how hard you try sometimes gauges go bad and replacing that gauge can be a time consuming chore.

Seals-it has developed a rubber grommet that makes installing gauges very easy. The grommets come in two sizes 2-1/16 and 2-5/8 and sell for around $10 each. The grommets replace the use of the standard metal u-shaped bracket that comes with the gauges. We all know how painful it is to hold the gauge in the panel while setting the retaining bracket in place and then trying to put on the small nut and washers. With these grommets all you do is drill the hole out for the gauge and install the rubber grommet into the panel.
Next using some glass cleaner, lubricate the rubber grommet by spraying it before installing the gauge. Running all the wires before gauge installation makes the whole job easier. Once the gauge is in place, just wipe away the excess glass cleaner and you are good to go. If you need to replace or remove the gauge just spray with some glass cleaner all around the gauge where it touches the grommet and you should be able to remove it with medium force.
The final product is a very clean installation that will provide some anti-vibration protection for the gauge. This is not a very expensive installation and will prevent the frustration of trying to install the u-bracket and fasteners to the back side of the gauge. This item is a time saver up front and on the back side when you have to perform maintenance on your gauge panel.
